⏳ What prodrome means
Prodrome is the early warning phase before a bigger episode. Kids may say "my tummy feels weird", "my throat feels funny", or they may become clingy, quiet, pale, or irritable.

MTWM METHOD: Treat prodrome like a fire alarm

We do not debate if it is real. We assume it is real. We act early, then we review later.

The 10 minute prodrome protocol

  • Dim lights, reduce noise, reduce questions.
  • Offer tiny sips of water or oral rehydration if tolerated.
  • Warm pack or cool pack based on preference.
  • Long exhale breathing: inhale 3, exhale 5, repeat 5.
  • Choose one action: rest or quiet activity.
🧩 MTWM clever strategy: The Yellow Card
Make a physical yellow card that your child can hand you. It means "prodrome" without needing words. You respond with the protocol. This reduces escalation from explaining.

School version

  • A one page plan for the school nurse or wellbeing coordinator.
  • Clear criteria for pick up if vomiting begins or hydration is not possible.
  • A calm exit route and a predictable safe room if available.
